Are you interested in what it takes to have a FULL HOUSE? If so, take a minute to read this short article, taken from a sermon I recently preached in my local church. If you are interested in filling up your church, Luke 14 gives us insight into how to make that happen.
(Luke 14: 16-23) says, “Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, GO out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”
The NLT reads (verses 22-23) like this: “After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ 23 So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.’”
The AMP says it like this, “‘And the servant [returning] said, Sir, what you have commanded me to do has been done, and yet there is room. 23 Then the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and urge and constrain [them] to yield and come in, so that my house may be filled.’”
Listen to the words used when it comes to fulfilling THE MISSION in order for there to be a FULL HOUSE:
“COMPEL” – meaning to force or drive, especially to a course of action; to force to submit; to overpower.
“URGE” – meaning to push of force along; to press, push, or hasten; to insist on, or assert with earnestness; to press by recommendation, as for acceptance.
“CONSTRAIN” – meaning to force, compel, or oblige.
The words used here, in terms of how evangelism should be approached are words of aggression and intentionality! In other words, evangelism was never meant to “just happen.” Evangelism is something that the church MUST be invested in and involved in or “the house” will NEVER be FILLED!
After studying Luke 14, the Lord spoke to me about the KEYS to a FULL HOUSE. They include:
HUNGER for the Promises of God
OBEDIENCE to what God requires
FAITHFULNESS to the Mission
The church shouldn’t think that the world will be HUNGRY for what they have if they’re NOT still HUNGRY for what they have! The church shouldn’t think the world will be OBEDIENT to what God requires if they’re NOT being OBEDIENT to what God requires. And the church shouldn’t think the world will strive to be FAITHFUL to the Mission if the church hasn’t been FAITHFUL to the Missions.
When comparing the life of Christ and the various events that were recorded during His time on earth. One thing becomes painfully clear, and that is this: the crowd was at its largest when Jesus was performing miracles! But when it came time to pursuing THE MISSION, we find Jesus literally making a prayer request for MORE MISSIONARIES to GO and REAP the HARVEST that was READY!
Many will pursue the MIRACULOUS but unfortunately NOT MANY will be willing to pursue THE MISSION!
(Matthew 9:37-38) says, “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
The need in (Matthew 9) is still the need of these Last Days, and that is a REVIVAL OF REAPERS!
The HARVEST was/IS READY.
It was/IS REAPERS that Jesus asked us to pray for.
REVIVAL was/IS READY.
What we NEED in America is A REVIVAL of REAPERS!
What we NEED in each LOCAL CHURCH is a REVIVAL of REAPERS!
The keys to a FULL HOUSE is simply a HOUSE FULL of MISSIONARIES who are HUNGRY, OBEDIENT, and FAITHFUL to THE MISSION of REACHING the world before it’s too late!
We NEED REAPERS who are so HUNGRY for REVIVAL that they will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to HAVE IT, and then be FAITHFUL in MAINTAINING REVIVAL by CONSISTENTLY REAPING the Harvest that is READY!
