What is Plant238? I’m glad you asked.
While I will not be able to fully convey everything in this one article, I will do my best to give you an idea of my burden for Church Planters and how God led me to create Plant238.
Recently while studying (1 Corinthians 12:4-21) I was reminded how God gifts to each person the talents and abilities that they are to use for His Kingdom and for His glory. Along with the gifts He gives to each person, He also places each person in the collective body where He needs them with the understanding that no part of the body is unnecessary. Each person has a gift and has been placed where they are by God for a purpose. With the gift you’ve been given by God also comes the responsibility to use it for Him. And that’s when I jotted down on a piece of paper this statement: “What are YOU DOING with YOUR God-given gifts?” Let that sink in for a minute…
Exodus 36:1-2 says, “Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded. 2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the Lord had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it.”
God had given Bezaleel and Aholiab, and the other gifted men, wisdom and understanding for a specific purpose. They had been given the ability to build the tabernacle and its furnishings. When it came to constructing the tabernacle these men knew how the Lord wanted it to be done because they had been gifted with the wisdom and understanding to do it. But verse 2 reveals that not only were they gifted with wisdom and understanding, but their hearts were stirred up to fulfill their purpose with passion.
While I have taught this to my local church many times, on this day, it was hitting me in the gut. God was dealing with me about what I am passionate about…what I’ve been gifted to do…and more importantly what I was doing/not doing with my God-given gifts to further His Kingdom. God worked on me for about a week as I spent time reflecting on some of the things I had experienced as a church planter. I walked down memory lane and celebrated some victories that I’ve experienced along the way. Having started 2 churches now, I still enjoy looking back at how God took small beginnings and helped us see churches grow from just a Bible Study to what they are today. I’ll write more about this soon.
So, as God was working on me I begin to call a few friends to talk out what I was feeling and how God had been leaning on me to do something to help church planters. Before we go any further let me just say that I am in no way saying that I am the authority on the subject or that I have all of the answers. I’ll be the first to admit that I do not.
However, I am burdened for men and their families who are out on the frontlines, many who are bi-vocational, and they are digging out a work to the best of their ability, but they have days where they struggle with self-worth. They are tired and weary. They are an emotional wreck. There are days that the struggle seems too hard to bear. There are Mondays that resigning sounds so much easier that staying and fighting. There are days when just having someone to talk to, who has been there and understands, would be way more beneficial than scanning social media only to be reminded that you must be doing something wrong because you are not seeing the same results in your church as “everyone else” is. Do I have your attention now?
Church Planting is NOT easy. Church Planting is NOT glamorous. Church Planting is WORK…REALLY HARD WORK! Church Planting is even harder work when you are having to work a full-time job to support your family and the church. Church Planting is a balancing act of doing the work of God while taking care of yourself and your family…all at the same time. So, what if there was a place…a hub of sorts, where a Church Planter or a Pastor of a smaller church (100 & UNDER) could go to for encouragement, inspiration, resources (especially FREE resources) to help them? What if there was a network of Church Planters who have done it/still doing it that new Church Planters or prospective Church Planters could connect with and glean from? What if there was a place for Church Planters to go to for ideas, to ask questions (like seriously….if you have a question just ask it)? What if there was a place that a Church Planter could go to for HELP?
Are you an Apostolic Church Planter?
Have you been feeling the Call to Plant a Church in a city that does not have an Apostolic Church?
Welcome to Plant238, the hub for every Apostolic Church Planter. Here, you will find Articles, Interviews, Sermons, Resources and Information on All Things, Home Missions.
It is my passion and my burden that Plant238 will become a place where Church Planters can connect with other Church Planters and realize that we are not competing with each other, we are laboring together (1 Corinthians 3:9).
Stay tuned as Plant238 continues to grow.
